Today, my boyfriend woke up wheezing terribly, aching, and sneezing. He's allergic to cats. I have 2 and they are my babies. He gave me an ultimatum, him or the cats. I haven't figured out how I'm going to tell him that I choose the cats. FML

Today, after being diagnosed with cat allergies, I explained to my cat-loving boyfriend that the doctor strongly recommended not allowing the cat in the bedroom. At 1:30 a.m. my boyfriend got out of the bed to go sleep in the spare room because, "the cat is sad." FML

Cats are not dumb. They are practically wild animals. My neighbors cat would catch and decapitate crows and rats....leave them on my porch. Never small critters like a sparrow or mouse. Lucky preferred big game.

Her boyfriend's not a pussy for being allergic to cats, he could be severely allergic. Since you are allergic to cats but can live with them, your allergies must not be that severe. I'm allergic to cats myself, and while I can stand them for a few nights at a time ("standing them" being barely abe to breathe, but still breathing), if I were to live with them there's the possibility of me suffocating one night and never waking up. I also don't exactly like the constant wheezing, coughing, and sneezing myself, or having to use my inhaler more times than suggested during the day. Sorry to the OP, wish you could compromise somehow, but hope you'll both find someone else.

Maybe hevhevz is as allergic as the OP's (ex-)boyfriend. Her boyfriend might have not been around cats that much and wasn't used to have a reaction. If it was extremely severe I doubt that he would be over her house. I mean, what the hell is wrong with his house? It's probably cat-free.

Oh dear, you have a lot to learn. First off, pets are like family, once you have them, you can't let go. They're like a sister/brother. How often does your cat dump you for another human, huh? NEVER. Plus, if OP let go of the cats, the boyfriend could easily dump her and she would be alone. Companionless. You've obviously never had a pet in your life. I have a beautiful kitten, her name is Beans. She loves me and my family and I've always loved her. Now shut the **** up and go into that hell hole of yours. Nobody's changing their lives for somebody else.

You should definitely go with the cats. Anyone that makes you choose between the and something you love is not worth your time and effort. Since it sounds like the boyfriend just discovered these allergies, or even if he knew of them beforehand, he should know about your affinity with your cats first and foremost. If he truly wanted to be with you, he should find a way to deal with the problem. Asking you to give up your friend or family is not the correct way to handle the situation.

I don't think it's about keeping the cats so much as it's about him giving her an ultimatum like that when they've (presumably) only been together for a short time. I would give up a lot of things for my boyfriend, but not if he told me he was going to leave me if I didn't. Guys who make their girlfriends choose between them and something they've loved a lot longer are assholes who don't deserve to be dating anybody.
