Today, my husband and I were diagnosed with herpes. We've been together for five years and were both virgins before. Even the doctor couldn't give any other explanation. FML

Time to change doctor if he couldn't give an explanation. Type 1 isn't as serious and often can be acquired at birth or as a child in non sexual forms. Mainly on the lip and skin area. Type 2 is the one usually contracted on your genital area. But both can also be acquired in any part of your body basically. So maybe nobody cheated, but just wasn't aware they've had it for a long time

you can get genital herpes from oral herpes which is quite common. sorry op.
