Today, realizing how poor I am, I decided to steal gas. The only place I was brave enough to steal from was my parents' lawn mower. FML
Today, I was missing $20 from my wallet, so I decided to ask my sister if she had taken it. Her response? "That reminds me, I need to borrow another 50." She has a job. That was my Christmas money. FML
Today, I was so ashamed of being broke that instead of asking my parents for money, I snuck into their house while they were at work to steal some of their food. FML
Today, I realized the only way I can pay my bills this month is if I steal from my 8 year old's birthday money. FML
Today, I was standing in the gas station, pulling out my wallet to pay the $100 of gas I just filled my car with. I opened my wallet and found a note saying "borrowed money for food". FML
Today, my financial situation is so dire that I tried to steal toilet paper from work. I got caught. FML
Today, my mom tried to get me to shoplift. From the dollar store. FML
Today, as usual, I work nights and sleep during the day. I found out that my brother uses my car and never puts gas in it when he called me for the first time to actually ask me if he could borrow my car, and also to lend him $20 to put gas in it. FML
Today, my car went missing. My sister constantly asks to borrow it, so I called her and asked if she had it. She swore blind that she didn't, so I called the cops and reported it stolen. They soon caught her driving the stolen vehicle. She blames me and is now telling everyone I set her up to be arrested. FML
Today, my sister stole my bike and gave it to her boyfriend. When I told my parents, they said it was fine, because I wasn't using it anyway. The reason I wasn't using it was because it needed a new tire, and I was saving up for one. FML

That kind of thinking, #1, is going to lead to a life of living in your mother's basement, wearing footie pajamas and sleeping in the same race car shaped bed you grew up in. Parents are there to help their kids until they can go on their own. It's bad enough so many parents nowadays don't even help their kids with shit like buying a car or with other big expenditures, or that parents are becoming more selfish and dumb. It doesn't help grow independence, it helps grow misery and puts them off to a bad start financially. How do they expect their kid to pay for all expenses and then also go to school and become successful? It's not the times when college cost $100 to go and then no one has any debt afterwards. And with the job situation.. good luck. All spoken from a poor person with a European family, so what do I know. If OP had to steal from his little sister for gas money and for some reason can't ask his parents, I have to assume they are assholes

89 no I really don't think all parents have the financial backing to buy their kids a car, and send them to school. I know my parents didn't I don't judge them, and honestly I turned out just fine, no debt from school. As for the gas money it seems like OP could have asked for gas money, but you don't know the entire situation. You can't just assume they are assholes.

She may only be ten but if OP explained the situation and stressed it, maybe the sister would understand. If not (which is possible, she's only a kid), I'm sure a parent or friend could have helped out. I have asked a friend for gas money to get to interviews. Sure, it was embarrassing but oh well. Plus, to a ten year, 20 bucks makes you about the third richest person in the world. She'll be upset when she notices it's gone.
