I would have replied with “A new boyfriend“, and then would have walked out the door with all of the coupons and headed to McDonalds to enjoy my free food and new single status. Honestly OP, you don't deserve that. He's a jerk. Especially after 8 years. Why waste more time with someone who can't value you after so long?

You have been in that relationship 8 years to long. Unless he was just joking around of course and actually did something nice for the occasion. If not, It's your fault for sticking around so long.
