My dad said the same thing. So I'm enlisted in the army as explosive ordinance disposal (bomb squad) to prove his ass wrong :p

If you can pass the physical, fitness test, have good reflexes, and not run away in fear in battle or during guard (would get you killed) then you will do fine. Your dad really needs to have more confidence in you and having the guts to join means your more brave then most people.
