Today, a guy I like asked me to a dance. Trying to act modest and at the same time compliment him, I told him, "You could do so much better, though." After thinking for a moment, he replied, "You're right, I could. Never mind," and walked away. FML

He probably would have stepped on your toes anyway..

Trying to act modest? More like fishing for a compliment, which by the way, all the guys I know really can't stand it when girls do that. YDI but it does suck that it was a crush that it happened with.

You were fishing hun. Next time an simple YES would be more than enough. Better luck next time.

I think you should've of just said yes. Saying things like that result in what just happened to you.

and this is the thought process that makes guys so confused. how is this being modest and complimentary? if the roles were reversed would you feel flattered or pitied?

You should've taken that opportunity and ran with it..whether you think he could've done better or not

OP, guys find unattractive girls who are putting themselves down. And I agree that he might have thought you were being sarcastic and were telling him to get lost.

you should have taken what you got and went with it
