Today, I was chatting with the cute new receptionist at the gym. I told her that I would be going there more if she was there. She looked me up and down and said that I should go regardless. FML

I can imagine she's probably tired of being hit on by the men going to her gym, but that's still an incredibly stupid thing to say to a customer. After all, you want them to come back and get a membership, not go back home humiliated and look for other gyms in their area where they won't be casually insulted by the staff.

Well now you know not to chase her because she's a jerk.

What the receptionist said doesn't necessarily mean that op is fat. She could just be turning him down. Sorry op :(

@40 - How the **** would you know if OP is fat or not? There ARE fat and obese people and they need to do something about it. I completely understand that in many cases it is not their fault (genetically predisposed) but saying someone is not fat is like telling an amputee that they are not missing a limb. ....okay rant over haha

Keep in mind, it's not many cases that people have no control, it's VERY LITTLE of the population which has no control. Genetics are not an excuse to live unhealthily.

It could also be that OP isn't chubby at all but is rail thin and she meant he needed to build some muscle.

Well now you know not to chase her because she's a jerk.

Or, amazing thought, she's tired of being hit on AT WORK. She's there to do her job, not flirt with whoever thinks they have the right.

Or maybe she doesn't know how to take a compliment and is really just a jerk.

You've got a great smile is a compliment, being hit on is not. Are you so self absorbed that you think that you hitting on someone is a compliment?

Funny , but she might be right .U should focus on ur workout .

Please use proper grammar when you comment. There isn't supposed to be spaces between punctuation, and 'u' and 'ur' aren't real words. Sorry, I'm a real grammar nazi.

Definitely #3, and to be fair although he might have thought he was giving her a compliment, she didn't appreciate the idea of being drooled over whenever he comes go the gym. I don't think she did anything wrong, if he can banter so can she. He's supposed to be there to workout.

23-- let's look at your comment. 'Isn't' should be 'aren't'. I have a master's degree in linguistics and enjoy proper grammar as much as the next person, but please don't criticize others when you can't master subject/verb agreement.

Is it really that hard to type two extra letters? Instead of "you" you type "u". Good job, you saved yourself a couple milliseconds.

Just wait until you start seeing your gains, then she'll be all over you OP

No, that's a really bad advice. Why would you want to go for someone that's only focusing on appearence?

I just figured that once she starts flirting with him he could make the decision to blow her off like she did him, or go for it. I'm not saying that he should put in work to make himself look good for her, #21.

#21, that's funny that you say that considering that OP started flirting with the receptionist. All he focused on was her appearance and all she has to work with is his appearance.

#51 Yes, I totally agree. Though he was just being nice to her, flirty(which I myself see as a compliment). She doesn't really have to shoot him down like that.

Ahaha she's got an attitude but don't take it to heart. I'm sure you can get somewhere if you try well :) good luck on future receptionists

But then again, she should sell what the company offers, not herself.

She doesn't have to respond to his flirting, but smiling and ignoring it is far better than making him feel like crap. If he doesn't stop flirting and starts to actually harass her, she can always have him kicked out.

What she said wasn't stupid or insulting. She was just encouraging him to go to the gym. Maybe she just doesnt like being hit on.

Some people pay big money to be causally insulted by staff (or inserting a staff, I can't really remember).

What a bitch! She should date him because he flirted with her at work! Who cares that OP could be not her type or she could be in a relationship! With how this was worded, it sounds like she wasn't being rude, And that OP took in the wrong way. *You should come because our gym is great and its good for you, not just to see me* sounds more likely than *you should come anyways cause you're fat*

It could go either way, but it really does sound like she was insulting the guy. No, she doesn't have to date the dude, but she could have at least turned him down in a less harsh way.

And people should respect people while they're working. Flirting with someone who's focused on their job is a huge annoyance to people, especially if it happens frequently. Besides, if he can state his attraction towards her appearance, why can't she state her reason for not being attractive. Double standards are a bitch.

she probably thought it was a line and she must be hearing it all day long ! Still, that response from her is a little unkind .

maybe that's her way of saying she wants you there more.
