Tough choice

Today, I was prescribed medicine for anxiety. Without it, my stomach churns all day. With it, I shake uncontrollably and my eyes twitch. Now I have to choose between diarrhea and rude stares from people in public. FML

Ask for another medicine? There's not just one for anxiety out there, I'm sure there's one that'll leave your eyes and body be :)

Go for the rude stares. Who knows, maybe someone will think that you're winking at them and you'll find yourself a date.

You shouldn't have to 'get used to' new meds. If you are reacting like that, you should ask to go on a new kind.

if youre just starting them wait and see if the side effects disapate. it usually takes 2 weeks for anxiety meds to kick in. if it doesnt go away, go back to your dr and ask what they think of an ssri paxil and paxil cr are examples of these. ive been on them and had no side effects. good luck with the anxiety

Pendatik, I've been on SSRI's for anxiety as well (even though their main use is for depression). I think it was mostly because I had really bad reactions to anxiety meds...Although SSRI's didn't treat me any better. :P

Pen, you made some typos there. I think you meant "uncontrollable sweating, brood cravings and constant porrections". Are you sure those weren't bad side effects? :D

Yes, because these are obviously the only two options. It's completely impossible to speak with your doctor about getting a different medication that doesn't make you shake and twitch. C'mon, OP. Either this is a common side effect that you were made aware of when newly starting the medication, or you should have already spoken with your doctor about it.

Welcome to the wonderful world of anxiety meds! I tried so many, and all of them gave me weird side effects like that. Each time I quit one of the meds "cold turkey", I had the eye twitching and uncontrollable shaking as well. Thankfully, that doesn't last forever! But it does last long enough to be super annoying and distracting. How long have you been on the meds? If you have been taking them for a few months and still having an adverse reaction, I would recommend trying a different one. Everyone's body chemistry is a little different, so what works for one person may not work at all for another.

those meds have stuff that counter act their affects. gokgle them and drink small amoubts. i take vyvanse for add and had those issues. i drink half a glass of grape juice a day and im fine.

honestly, I'd take the rude stares in a hearbeat but FYL also, see if there are other medicines/ways to counteract those effects like other people have said talk to your doctor

Uhm, so you talk to your doctor and you try another medication. And #41 - for many MJ can increase anxiety, not releive it (some strains are known for this, in fact).

Ask for a different medication! i have clinical depression, suicidal thoughts, social anxiety disorder and general anxiety disorder. My psychiatrist first put me on paxil which made me feel like absolute shit, after which he put me 150 mg of effexor and it ended up making me feel 100% better :) please get in contact with your dr, because with these types of medications it is not good to just start and stop on them

Ok I take anxiety mess among some others. Try my doses I take 1mg of xanax 3 times a day, zoloft 200mg once a day, 400mg wellbutrin once a day, 10mg propranlol 3 times a day. I take 6 other meds but for different issues.

Things don't work that way, doses and medications work differently for different patients. Self medication can cause serious problems.
