What Twizted said. If the vet records are in your name, that proves ownership and you can call the cops to get your dog back. If you never took the dog to the vet, or records are in his or both names, you may be farked.

Actually the cops won't get involved over that. It's a civil issue. Sorry, now If you take him to court with papers you can get your dog back. You can call the cops but in the state of Texas, any type of property that is left with the other person is called civil property and they won't touch,
