I can see the irony of her father being happy to give a 'blessing' (which is patriachal - the idea that a woman has to have the approval of a male authority figure to do something such as get married) but requesting that she keep her last name (often seen as a progressive thing to do and indicates that the woman is not property of her husband). Of course, it's her father who is imposing the progressive action in order to give the patriachal one...
