Today, I bought my son a nice car for his 18th birthday. When I gave it to him, he just got mad and told me that if I really wanted to spend that much money on him, I should've used it to help him pay for college. FML

Wow. That's ... weird. At least you raised your son to value education over possessions. Tell him you're helping him get TO college.

At least he wants his education!! :D

Smart kid. Impolite, but smart.

I'm sure he can sell the car and pay for the college. However, "you don't look a gift horse in the mouth", so if the guy is THIS impolite, if I were you I probably wouldn't purchase him any present on his next birthday. Also, the car might be more useful than college education in the long run.

That was my point. ^ But I was also bringing up that the OP spent a whole lot of money to buy that car and the son's reaction was unwarranted.

I completely understand why he reacted that way! I would have done the same.

Well, it does sucks for you, but honestly, I expected something like "I wanted a cooler car". At least he values education (even if he could have said that in a other way)

If you're buying your son a nice car I assume that you have a fair amount of money meaning you can afford to pay for college and his car. If that is the case then yes your son in ungrateful and probably doesn't have enough respect for you to deserve a car.
