Everybody is acting like OP won't help pay for college, because he bought the son a car. I'm sure Op will still help pay for college, they just wanted the son to roll up there in style.
Exactly! If a parent is willing to spend their money on a decent car for their kid, I don't see why they wouldn't be willing to chip in for tuition. My parents bought me a car in high school, and it's not like they're all, "Oh, we spent all that money on you already, we don't have to help you anymore." They help me pay for my school books that I can't afford now that I'm in college (:

The reason of this unhappy incident is the lack of the communication between you and your son. Surprises occasionally bring tragedy, I think.
