Today, I bought my son a nice car for his 18th birthday. When I gave it to him, he just got mad and told me that if I really wanted to spend that much money on him, I should've used it to help him pay for college. FML

BRAVO! BRAVO! I would be proud of such a son. *insert Orsen wells clap scene*

Ungrateful or not, it's still rude as hell to say that to your parent who just BOUGHT you a nice car. He should have taken the car, and sold it for the best price he could get, explain to the parent if the question comes up, but still show how appreciative he should have been.

What an ungrateful little shit! He should be happy he even got anything for his birthday.

It's kind of justified when you think about the fact that OP's son was probably struggling to pay for college, and OP just gave him another expense that he didn't need... It's like giving a drowning person a glass of water or something. :P

You have an intelligent kid and you say "Fml" ??

The first big purchase one should make is a house, because cars depreciate in value unlike houses most of the time...and YDI OP!!

That's good that he is motivated but he'll still need a ride to school.

In many underdeveloped countries, the price of a nice yet simple new car (I mean a car without AC, or without hydraulic direction, or with only manual change) is worth just as much as an Entire graduation course at a nice University (approximately US$ 15,000). Of course I would love to get a car as a gift, because I was able to get a full scholarship for my college degree. But if I didn't and I had to choose between my education or a car, I would choose the first one.
