Today, I bought my son a nice car for his 18th birthday. When I gave it to him, he just got mad and told me that if I really wanted to spend that much money on him, I should've used it to help him pay for college. FML

He's got a point but it was a nice gesture what you did, OP

That would be a different story if it's a Ferrari.

Ydi op for not knowing your son. What good parent gives their child more financial obligations? None. I say kudos though, you at least raised a young man who has his priorities straight.

Wow. That is sensible. Your son turned out to be a good person.

I'm sorry ydi, obviously a car is not a necessity for ops son or he would have been happy about receiving it. You should be happy your son is focused on his education.

Ah, FML logic. If a kid throws a fit about their birthday presents because they wanted different toys, they're a brat. But when a kid throws a fit because he wanted some extra help for college instead of a nice car it's suddenly okay. It doesn't mean the dad is immature or doesn't know anything about his kid. Most teenagers would be thrilled for a brand new car.

Eh, I guess it could be the mom. But either way, same thing applies. Being unappreciative of something you were given as a gift is a bad thing no matter what it is that you would have preferred over what you got.
