Today, I bought my son a nice car for his 18th birthday. When I gave it to him, he just got mad and told me that if I really wanted to spend that much money on him, I should've used it to help him pay for college. FML

Wow I definitely didn't see that coming. Perhaps you should have talked with your son about what he wanted. I know it's crazy, but not ALL teenage boys want a car for their birthday.

So, your life sucks because your son actually has his priorities in the right order?

Hmm. That's a bit of a reversal... Sorry he didn't appreciate it, but at least he's got his head on straight!

This FML is from Israel. At age 18, your son would be going straight into the army to do his mandatory national service. I would think that there would be little to no time to for him drive around in his nice car for the next 3 years.

Except if you know anything about the Israeli national service, not all ethnic groups are subject to it, and anyone can be exempted for all kinds of reasons.

But Israel is 75% Jewish, so I would wager that OP is too. And the IDF is cracking down on draft dodging more now, from what I hear.

Maybe you should have talked to your son beforehand about what he wanted. Im sure at some point in your conversations with him he has spoken about this.

YDI.. for spoiling your son with such a big gift (when he should earn his money to buy it and if you get him a car now, what are you going to buy him next? a house?) and for not setting your priorities right.

Uh...he has a point there. But he could've been a bit more polite.

Run him over with it to teach him some manners! What an ungrateful person your son is!
