Today, it was my first day on a £600 a week job. I was fired for being 10 minutes late. FML

Rule #1 when starting a new job: don't be late. YDI.

Watch out, Boners. It looks like macskapingvin is going to give you a run for you money in the "Sex Humor" category.

I didn't want to be the first to say it and get my throat torn out by the mob, but I kind of agree. Assuming OP has translated a wage in GBP to USD, $600 doesn't seem that huge for London - it's a pretty expensive city to live in. SOMAgirl is completely right though - your work ethic should be independent of your wages. I'm assuming you didn't have a valid excuse of course.

Being punctual means a lot to professionals. On my very first job I was 15 mins early almost every except for 2 days, that's after working at that place for over a few months and thats due to public transportations. If you job sucks, pays lower than what is asked of you, and firing is not common place, be late all you want.

I dont care if my job was paying minimum wage or $1000K/hr, I never showed up late. And if I knew I would be late, I always called ahead of time to alert them I was gonna be late.

if it was your first day making a porno, i guarentee you wouldve been on time for that. obviously your new boss wasnt a sex offender or anything.

I agree with SOMA and zeb. You took the job, you should be responsible enough to keep it for longer than a day. I wouldn't be thrilled to be getting $600 a week but if I accepted the offer, I would take it seriously. OP, YDI completely. Good luck with the job hunt.

you ******* idiot, never be late the first day. I use 3 different alarm clocks on such days. battery powered+ plug powered + mobile phone

Maybe you shouldn't have been late on the first day of your job, dumbass.

Now I'm genuinely curious. I think the OP meant that $600 was a high wage, but that's now three people that think it's actually low for where she lives. Rather than getting into a long debate, thumbs-up this comment if you think US$600/week (~£20k/year) is low or normal for London, and thumbs-down if you think I have my head up my ass, and it's something OP should be insanely grateful for.
