Just because you were THERE for 12 hours doesn't mean diddly squat, OP. By the fact that you used the term "cooped up" it sounds like you must have sat there twiddling your thumbs the whole time, like you had nothing else to do while you were at work. If you were actually working then FY boss for being a dick, but your choice of words doesn't exactly inspire confidence that you did anything meaningful with your shift. :/

I work with guys that just put in hours but don't do much of anything and ask your boss what he ment by that ?

Maybe during those 12 hours u were being Annoying and not really working hard; just a possibility.
