Today, I spent $500 buying my lost cat back from a jerk who thought it was his. I get home and my mom tells me that she'd sold it to the same guy for $10 because she thought the cat was ruining my love life. FML

You know the cost of owning a cat? It's not a toy or a sheet of paper. It costs 500 to feed it for a year. A cat is worth plenty more than 500 dollars.

Considering most breeds of cats can cost 500 dollars if bought from good breeders, and can be loyal family pets who will live with you for many years, it's more likely they were willing to pay that much to get back a family member that they love very much. I know I'd date someone who cares that much for their pets.
