But the chassis is the structural base of a car. Lying on the hood may dent the hood at worst or do put pressure on the front suspension (though definitely not enough to be serious unless OP is morbidly obese). Lying on the hood would have done no more damage to the chassis than putting an equivalent weight in the boot.
