Pleasant smell

Today, while watching TV in my dorm, I clearly heard my roommate yell to someone proudly, "I've only taken a shower 4 or 5 times since I've been here." He's been my roommate for four months. FML

What I'm wondering is: You've been roommates for all this time and you seem surprised by thei lack of showering. So... Didn't you smell that before?

I've only taken a shower 4 or 5 times since I've been here. The way it's written, the OP is the one that's not showered... The story, as written, makes no sense.. why is there proud yelling? What has the OP's shower count got to do with the yelling?
