Today, a man in a hurry asked me for a light. Not being able to find my lighter amongst the muddle inside my handbag, I handed him my lit cigarette so he could light his. He took it from me, started smoking it and walked off. FML

Does anybody know if this FML was translated from the French version or if it was the other way around ? It's on both versions and I'm curious :)

Right. I should have gotten that from the location. I hadn't seen it.

is your life really ****** because of this?

She technically gave it to him, #73..

I'm definitely not a model citizen, I won't lie to you. I just believe everything I said was true and relevant, that's all.

Okay, he took your cigarette. How exactly is your life ******? It's just a cigarette. I'm confused.

The rule is as follows: If your FML contains anything to do with you and your smoking habit, prepare to be YDI'd, regardless of whether you were in the right or not.

As per the standards of every FML about smoking, all the self righteous assholes have said OP deserves it for smoking. Because obviously those people are model citizens with no addictions, vices or harmful habits whatsoever. And of course smokers don't know they're doing damage, good thing people like that are there to remind them all the time. It also seems to be nearly all Americans who comment 'lol they saved u so u can quit now' because quitting smoking is that easy and achieved when you lose one cigarette.

It's not just Americans who say it. It's equal in all countries, and I'm sure you know that. I voted YDI because OP should have realized that the man would probably walk off with her cigarette, which obviously, he did.

It's not equal though. At least from my observations on smoking FMLs that majority of severe anti-smoking commenters are American. This FML is from France. Do you honestly think they have the same staunch anti-smoking mentality the USA has in equal measures?

Actually, it's rather commonly understood that handing a cigarette to someone where there is no lighter, or the lighter isn't working means "touch my lit cigarette to your unlit one and light it that way". Smokers do this all the time. For the OP to have the guy walk away with the cigarette is an incredibly rude thing to do.

One thing I don't miss about smoking is all the moochers and weirdoes always bumming off you. Hopefully, he just misunderstood your gesture cause that's pretty rude.
