A lot of people here are quick to judge here. We don't know the parents side of the story, I'm not trying to give them the benefit of the doubt but OP could've done things in the past to upset them and put them on edge. Think about it.
That was my first thought, too. I wouldn't be surprised if OP has gotten in a car accident or two recently to warrant such an extreme reaction.
My parents are the same way if im not responsible enough to do my chores im not responsible enough to own a car
Not doing chores isn't really the same as accidentally dropping a glass though
Did you buy the car yourself? If so they can't take your keys.
If you don't live with them, they have no right to do that.
My parents were control freaks too. Work, work two jobs if you have to and just get out. Exhaustion and living pay check to paycheck doesn't last forever if you get an education or work hard, and its better than being controlled by people so petty.

People make mistakes. You made a simple human mistake, apologized, and fixed it. You did nothing wrong. Some parents just have giant sticks up their asses and are begging for an excuse to be dicks.
Wow, that's what I call an overreaction. Seems to me like they might be taking your keys for some other stupid reason they're not telling you.
