Today, my parents decided they won't pay for college because of a Fox News story that said higher education "makes you liberal." FML

Going to college doesn't make you liberal, it makes you smarter and more prepared in the world. Your parents are really ignorant

Fox are idiots, they just implied that Liberal people are highly educated. They're right for once; their right wing nazi-fest is for retards.

show them that episode of south park where the kids were feared being kidnapped, so they ended up all kids out of south park and they ended up living with the huns, lol.

Everyone knows Fox news is the only reliable source for news. OP: Your parents didnt go to college did they? What higher education does is make you realize that Fox isnt truly a news network. But half a brain usually does that, too EDIT: This wasnt supposed to be a reply. Sorryyyyy

Maybe it's because being intelligent and educated allows you to think rationally, giving the illusion that you are liberal.

I watch FOX News when I want a laugh. My own political beliefs aside (I'm a BlueDog/fiscally conservative Democrat from South Carolina), I would hope that by now it's common knowledge that FOX News is not news. You should provide them with a course in simple logic. Simple logic would state that their reasoning is faulty...just because college students tend to be liberal does not mean that it's the school making them liberal. And even so...who cares? Don't they want you to have a job? -HP, Davidson College '12

No I hit on it perfectly...did you catch my stint about Harvard? In case not, please return to !t grade and learn to read ^_^

most college students are liberals because they are young... you tend to lose sight of other peoples needs and your heart as you get older.

I wouldn't say that is necessarily true... I think it's due to older people growing up in more conservative environments when they where young. Besides, people's opinion's change. I am personally libertarian, but I go to school with a lot of conservative people. They are all very nice, but generally very religious. I don't think you could say that they are conservative because they don't care about others...

no, but they dont do much to help others. theres a reason why liberals are called bleeding hearts. in some ways a libertarian is closer to a conservative . But no i dont have anyting aginst conservative myself they just dont support social programs which in my view people need. but when your young a poor you can afford to be liberal and want all these social things but when your old and have bills and kids to pay for you care more about your own family

It is true that liberals are for things like universal health care, which would in theory be beneficial to far more people than the system we have now, and I definitely agree that is self sacrificial. That being said, the multitudes of conservatives I am aquatinted with do so much for others, like working in soup kitchens, holding clothing drives and donating money to organizations. It's not so black and white. I understand there are white collar guys who have a portfolio to protect and a family to provide for who aren't helping anyone but themselves, but it always goes both ways.

Although I'm liberal and I'm in favor of universal healthcare, however the way the bill is at the moment I'm smart enough to realize is like praying to a deity for every natural disaster to strike you simultaneously. The way they want is just won't work, and I'm aware that it is a foolish goal to actually even put up.

67 is right. I was going to make this point if no one else did. fox news is still full of bs, though. I feel sorry for this kid, but your parents do NOT have to do anything for you after youre 18, so count your blessings

what kind of bullshit is that?!?! like that even makes any ****** sense at all

Boo hoo, suck it up crybaby. Work for your education if you want it so bad. Not everybody who goes to college has it paid for by Mommy and Daddy. you will value it more if you pay for it yourself.

like you wouldn't be upset. Picture this, you are in senior year of high-school. You are 17 or 8 years old, and you just got accepted to your dream university, but, oops! You can't go now because your parents decided that they don't want you to become "liberal" (despite what your personal beliefs are) and they won't pay for it. You can't necessarily get student loans very easily now because of the economy... and (depending on the school and your talents) it can be really difficult to get scholarship money. If your parents where going to pay your full ride, and they decided not to for some idiotic reason, you'd be upset too. I'm not saying parents need to pay for college, but this is definitely a FML

#70 is a ******* idiot. Maybe if he realized what parenting is really about, he'd know that parents WORK to get THEIR CHILD a good EDUCATION. What 17 or 18 year old has the money to pay for college now a days? Unless it's community college or something. Guess someone here supports child labor.

74 parents aren't around to be your best friend and hold your hand all through life. they are there to PARENT you and prepare you for life in a harsh world. if op depends on his parents for everything, how is that going to help him? while i agree it would be tough for him to get that much money, and nice if his parents helped him, i'm sure it would also be beneficial for him to actually WORK for something.

my comment was actually directed at 114. my mistake :)

your parents are idiots, but they don't have to pay for your college.
