Today, I was listening to my son's teacher gossip about students whilst in the grocery store. I was thrilled when she described my son as "A model student". However, she then went on to say, "Which is surprising considering that his parents are trailer trash." FML

Wow, that's terrible! I'm a teacher, and that's why you NEVER gossip about a student. You never know when their parents are right behind you.

File a complaint with the principal. While they WERE outside of school, they mentioned your child with enough identifiers so as to cause a privacy issue. I would have thanked them politely for their opinions and then asked for the spelling of their names. Keeping a cool head makes you much more credible when complaining.

Without more information, we can't decide whether the teacher's opinions are accurate. However, I think the OP should take the criticism seriously and seek to improve himself rather than getting insulted. It's never nice to talk about others behind their back, but we all do it, so we can't exactly blame the teacher for speaking his mind to a friend.
