Today, I went to the movies. A really cute girl sat beside me. I tried to strike up a conversation with her until she turned to look at me and I realized he was a guy. I couldn't even finish the movie because I felt his judging eyes burn holes into me the entire time. FML

Today, after years of battling my social anxiety issues, I went out clubbing with my friends. A girl started talking to me and we actually hit it off. The next thing I know, I'm on the floor getting wailed on by some bloke for hitting on his girlfriend. She didn't do a thing to stop him. FML

Today, I ran into someone I'd never had a crush on in school, but because I've realised we have a lot in common, I get nervous whenever I see him. I was so near to him while paying for food that I had an anxiety attack, and had to leave quickly. FML

The problem with that is actually being able to talk to the person in the first place. For me I can't just start talking to someone like that. Not unless I have a mutual friend introduce and be a kind of buffer

It may have been quiet, but nobody ran screaming. Make a second date, exchange glances and expressions. Once you both get past "hi" things should pick up. It really sounds cute.
