Today, I hurried into the bank to cash in the $5,000 check my grandparents had given me for college money. I found out that instead of my name, they wrote 'our sweet iddle pumpkinbutt'. I couldn't make eye contact with anyone after. FML

i agree with Russlelnieuw , if you don't like it, whi IS IT your nickname. i mean honestly.

a bank won't cash a check to someone if it's not in their name! (unless it's signed over to them) so the op didn't get the 5000 hence the fml

Yeah, it really sucks when someone gives me five grand too.

Just give me the 5000 so they can call me that then.

How could you not have noticed that beforehand?

Yes, **** your life. You're grandparents gave you 5 grand free. You should kill yourself you life is so bad. I think you're missing the big picture here, who cares what they wrote, you got 5 ******* thousand for ******* free.

Who cares? The OP cares because he can't get the money with that name on it. I don't understand why SO many people on this post don't get this.

#82/blastvortex has a good point. This story just doesn't sound real. Why would the grandpartents do that? Surely the must at least somewhat understand banking... o_O' But anyways, cheer up pumpkinbutt! I'm sure they'll write you up a new one! :D Also, you totally should have tried insisting that that was your name and watch their reactions! :D

See the *idle* part? It implies “get a job”. The grandparents were having a little fun at the expense of their sweet idle pumpkinbutt.

You couldn't put the check in either. That's not your legal name. So either you're lying and this story is made up, or...?

I don't understand why everyone takes the phrase FML so seriously. The OP wanted to share an embarrassing story, and it was mildly amusing even if it wasn't all that tragic. I'm not aware of any rule that says a story has to inspire suicide-inducing emotional pain for it to qualify as an FML. Also, there's no need for anyone to be bitter. $5,000 is a generous gift, but it really is an insignificant amount of money when it comes to paying for college. So it isn't like the OP just received an enormous windfall or anything like that.
