Today, feeling very distant from my daughter recently, I decided to sneak a peek in her diary to see what was on her mind. The book was apparently one of those that play the sound of a woman screaming when opened improperly, and alerted everyone in the house to my actions. FML

If you were distant, shouldn't you, oh I don't know, try to talk to her instead of looking at her diary? YDI

Say hello to trust issues and an even greater distance..

You deserved that more than anything. I hope you feel horrible. My diary is my personal life & I would be even more distant from the person who tried to read it. YDI

You're a dumb mom, if you felt distant, you should've just sat down and talked to her, than to peek into her diary, dumbass

You couldn't - oh, I dunno - take her shopping with you instead of prying? It's her DIARY for Pete's sake!

I take it you were trying to sever connections completely with your daughter; breeching trust, invading her privacy and all. What alternatives do you think your kids are going to turn to if they can't even trust people in their own home?

Don't go behind her back like that. Sit down with her and talk. But remember: if she doesn't want to talk, that still does NOT give you the right to do something like this. You so totally deserved it.

why wouldn't you talk to her first before trying to invade her personal property? verbal communication goes farther than you think with teenagers.
