Today, at dinner, I accidentally let it slip that I'd taken a small sip of alcohol a few years ago and hated it. My extremely strict parents are now trying to get me into rehab. FML

Today, my parents staged a family intervention and gave me the grandest bollocking I've ever experienced in all my 22 years of life. They did this because my sister showed them a photo of me jokingly posing with three bottles of Bud Light at a party. Apparently, I'm an alcoholic in denial. FML

Today, I helped myself to a small glass of cocktail from the fridge, not realising it was alcoholic. I told my mom what happened. She made me drink salty water until I vomited so I wouldn't get "alcohol poisoning". I'm 19. FML

Today, I was eating out at a restaurant with my family. My dad had drained most of our bottle of wine, so thinking he'd be a little less uptight than usual, I reached over to pour myself some. He swatted my hand away and started yelling at me for being a "degenerate drunk". FML

your parents didn't hear the "small sip" and "hated it" part, all they heard was: "every time your back is turned i drink as much alcohol as i can force down my gullet and when you're around i go crazy without it and i need some RIGHT ******* NOW OR I'M GONNA KILL SOMEONE!!!!!" i know, because my family is much the same way. they assume that if i drink any alcohol that i'm going to get shitfaced. ironically, we go to a church that serves real wine with communion every week.

I find this sort of thing so odd. I'm Swiss and have grown up eating fondue. My parents put it a lot of kirsch so I've essentially always have had alcohol. Now whenever I drink white wine I'm reminded of fondue.
