That doesn't seem all that weird to me in and of itself. It's basically what I paid for to have my therapist teach me to do. If a pep talk helps you feel a little less miserable, then give yourself the best damn pep talk you can. If you have any hobbies, maybe see if there are meetups in your area that you could go to? A book club, a knitting club, a D&D night at the local store, whatever. It's built-in conversation material, and might help you reach out to people in person.
Get a dog. You won't be so desperate for affection then. This can prevent you from making a really bad choice when picking a human. I tried self-pep talks but they always ended up being the rants of an angry football coach after a badly-played first half.
