Today, while having dinner with my boyfriend's family, his mom told me that it looks like I've gained quite some weight. When my boyfriend told her that this was a rude thing to say, she said it wasn't rude, just the truth. FML

She doesn't like you. At least your boyfriend stood up for you?

This is actually a nice FML. I can't remember the last time I saw an FML where the boyfriend stood up for the girlfriend.

Nice job #7, use the reply button to get to the top just to say "noob". Dumbshite...

We don't even know if it's the truth! Maybe the mother just thought op had gained weight. We don't know if she actually had :) When her and the boyfriend is happy, why does the mother even care :)

Aww, it's okay. Your boyfriend probably still loves you no matter what you look like. ^_^

Time to tell her you're pregnant .

Tell her she better be expecting a grandchild soon. Shut her up real fast

25-that's a rude thing to say...

well if you're embarrassed, do something about it!

damnnnn! thats a burn!!!!! u must have really put on the pounds or she is just a total jerk ball.

Get on a diet and prove her wrong .

bballsoccerrocks 7

Wouldn't going on a diet prove her right?

Diets don't even help weight loss, makes it worse, actually.

A healthy diet will help you lose weight and control it. A healthy diet consists of cutting down extra calories, eat well balanced meals, don't stuff yourself to death, cut off snacks and junk foods, soda, foods that are high in sugar or fat. The diets that do not work are the ones when people take pills or starve themselves for a quick fix.

Pufferfish78 5

Diets don't work because they are normally short lived. What does work is a life style change. And yes, there is a difference.

98- cutting off those foods completely are the reason diets are short lived. People deprive themselves and when they finally and inevitably cave, they gain back all the weight they lost and more. Everything in moderation is the key. Plus exercise.

It is still rude to tell the truth if it is something like that

You're right, and I am happy for the op that her bf stood up to his rude mom for her. So many fmls concern SO's and spouses who stand by idly in circumstances like these. Op at least your bf is not a cowed mama's boy, that's what's important.

Exactly! I'm so tired of people thinking they can get away with being a rude jackass just because they are being honest. Using tact and being diplomatic still exist. People that use that excuse are just inconsiderate and lazy.

My papa always told me... "Thy naked truth is better than a well dressed lie." ^_^

93-that advice is valid, but I still think that if you can't say anything nice, it's better not to say anything at all-at least in regard to your unsolicited opinion about someone's looks!

StillSinging9594 0

Yeah it's especially rude to make comments like that about a person's weight... They can't always control it and are probably already self-conscious about it!

You should have told her you had gained weight because of all her fatty cooking!

It's funny how op's boyfriend didn't deny it

Regardless, it shows a lot of character that he stood up for his girlfriend instead of laughing it off or letting her get away with it. It's never nice to point out that someone has a weight problem. Especially since it could be due to illness or medication. Her boyfriend sounds like a keeper. :)

Maybe she though you were pregnant and was trying to ask without asking.

I wouldve said and it looks like yur fat mouth has grown quite a bit too, so why dont yu stfu and mind yur own business before my fat ass gets up and makes yu. but, idk.. I like my boyfriends mom :)

haha it was a joke, I wouldn't do that.. I'd look at her and go OMNOMNOMNOM

yu obviously didn't read my comment. I post that kind of stuff to feed the trolls on here.

cntryiscntrywide: I do believe the FML itself should have shown you why over-feeding yourself is a bad idea.

Kaysl: that makes no sense. my commenting has nothing to do with my weight & I don't over feed myself. keeping my mouth shut on here is pointless everyone expresses their opinion anyway why keep mine to myself?

KiddNYC1O 20

See, everyone. That's how it's done; the Kay way.

AlaskaKid95 7

99 You should keep your opinion to yourself because other FMLers don't like you.

Vball6 19

131- "keep your opinions to your self because other FMLer's don't like you" Lol seriously? You just made yourself sound like a idiot

131- who cares what other people think, its a blog. Express youself, but try not to be a douché and a troll.

99- please stop commenting. If you haven't noticed already, all of your comments on this thread have been buried. But if you don't mind this, keep on writing stupid ass comments. Just a friendly reminder!!

You're either overweight, or your boyfriend's mom is one rude mofo. Or both.

gaining weight doesn't mean overweight, just more weight than before...

12- there's always at least one stupid commenter who states the obvious that OPs life sucks. Well duh! It's an FML! When will people ever learn?

kateheartswaffle 0

Yeah alright. It was funnier in my head. *backs away slowly*

You should have asked her "Didn't you put on any weight when you were pregnant?" just to see her reaction.

perdix 29

Something can be rude and true at the same time. Pretending that nobody notices when you get fat is delusional.

flockz 19

if you have to buy two planes tickets when you fly to places by yourself, i think it's safe to say you're a little ******* obese. point is, op's mom in law made an observation, and everyone has their own opinion. if op doesn't want to be called fat, then do something about it.

1221jamw 11

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a mother in law only when you get married?
