Today, the family dog was in the garbage and wouldn't stop eating. He is a large dog, and I had to put my arms around him and pull him out of the trash can. Well, he bit me so hard I was bleeding. My whole family is siding with the dog and saying it was my fault for not letting him eat. FML

That dog is food possessive and needs that worked on. There are a few ways this can be corrected but the dog probable gave you a warning growl that you didn’t hear in the trash. Dogs communicate too they don’t just do something. If your family lets the dog do whatever it wants, good luck.

This was a learning Experiance for the dog. it was your chance to show them that's not right. if you have a food aggressive dog you need to show it who's boss. Because I have kids I would play in my dogs food while hes eating. You cant expect other people either kids or adults to never have food around your dog. and one good accident and the dogs dead and you can be screwed too.

if its a large dog you smack it with a pulled palm smack on top of its head that way it won't be dumb enough to hurt you again and when you smack it say "no biting" doesn't work for every single animal but if its bite causes bleeding then yeah or pin it on the floor

Just here for the prize 8

I don't see why people are down voting this comment. it's right on the concept that the owner needs to prove his dominance over the dog.

I put our dog on the floor and then put my knee on the back his neck until he decides to get some act right and stop growling

Doesn't sound like a safe family dog at all if it lashes out like that Off to the vet time

You're a wanker. The dog just obviously needs training.

You don’t mess with dogs and their food. Sometimes you can’t do anything but let them eat

The family needs to take extra precaution to prevent the dog from getting into the garbage in the first place.

That isn't what any professional trainer would say. The human is dominant, not the dog.

Exactly. My cat did that to me once. I couldn’t see her, and when I put my hand by her to find out where exactly she was, she nipped me. First and the last time, too.

Sounds like someone needs a shock collar...

Dogs maul toddlers all the time, why do you think he'd make an exception? YDI

Tell the rest of them that if he ever gets sick after eating from the trash can, it is on them and not you.

if a dog becomes food aggressive to the point where it will draw blood it's time for the dog to be put down because it will only become more and more aggressive take this from someone who knows dogs and works with dogs if that dog had bitten a child or smaller animal it could have killed them your family is b*******and it is almost impossible 2 train out that kind of food aggression if they are drawing blood and a large dog will become immune to a shock collar
