Today, while I was out of the house, my 6 year old brother stole my new waterproof camera, dunked it into the toilet holding onto the wrist strap, and flushed repeatedly to see if it lived up to its "waterproof promise." It didn't. FML

$200 for a camera is cheap, at least in Australia... Camera's aren't just "point-and-shoot". Different cameras do different things. A $200 camera is just an ordinary digital camera.

Imagine you're in his situation. Protecting yourself with your arms is a normal first reaction when someone randomly shoots something at you. Sadly, the OP only had time to figure it out after his camera was already soaked. FYL.
