Did you ever let him know he was supposedly your boyfriend? Because "Look, (name) sees you as a threat" sounds like what someone would say when he was under the impression that everyone involved already knew who is his girlfriend and who is the friend he allowed to hang around him a lot until it made his girlfriend uncomfortable.
