Deaf people can still have a favorite music, they can feel the vibrations, they don't need words.
In addition to what everyone else says, there are also different degrees of deafness that a person can have. Sort of like how you can be legally blind and still see some things, just not well enough to rely on your sight to the degree that most people do. So yeah, a deaf person may be able to hear and enjoy music to an extent. Not that it's a good idea to assume either way, though it's understandable to forget, especially when you're talking through text.
