Today, I was babysitting this 12 year old. We were watching a movie, and he was being an angel just laying with his head in my lap. He fell asleep so I closed my eyes and had a little nap. When I woke up he had taken my shirt off and was feeling up my boobs. FML

How did that not wake you? Also isn't twelve a little old to lay down in someone's lap (except parents)?

Ydi for thinking its appropriate to let a 12 old lay his head in your lap.

Reminds me of butters and Paris Hilton in that episode of south park.

Yeah I'm sorry but after 11 years old if a kid STILL needs a babysitter it's probably because the kid is out of control. I'm not going to say YDI but you definitely shouldn't have let him sleep on your lap. There's something wrong there.

In most countrys/states it is illegal for a person under the age of 15 to stay home alone. If the parents might've been afraid of leaving their kid alone while making a shopping trip or going out to dinner. So it is perfectly five for a person older than 11 to have a babysitter. I do not mean to sound rude or anything by the way!(:

I did not know that. I was by myself whine alone at age 11 but I was responsible. thanks for the info.

What twelve year old needs a babysitter? I was BABYSITTING at twelve.

I hope you told the parents that their child did something high inappropriate and that you will not be working for them again.

Umm I wouldn't post this if I were you. In a "his word against yours" you could end up in some serious trouble.

The kid should be punished, but I hope you got fired. You were being paid to watch the kid, paid to be awake. Taking that nap was a dereliction of duty and you should never have done that.

I agree..,,I'd fire you if you were taking a nap while watching my son

So you mean to tell me you NEVER sleep when you are home with your kids?

I think rule 1 of babysitting is to never take your eyes off what the child is doing for an extended period of time. Sleeping is certainly breaking that rule. And to the person above me- your own kids are different than when you're babysitting.

117, the way the FML is worded totally implies that she slacked off and went to sleep. She actively made a decision to nap after he took one. If it was close to bedtime, as 71 suggests, it would only be acceptable to take a nap AFTER putting the kid to bed. 120, sleeping while watching your own kids is different from babysitting. When you are babysitting you are getting paid to do so. You are being paid to take responsibility for someone else's children.

She didn't **** up as hard as she could have but she still ****** up enough to deserve getting fired. She should have been awake whenever the kid was because that is what she is getting paid to do. When watching a kid for the night, you can work your sleeping schedule around that. With naps, you can't. Napping on the job is a fireable offense. Don't take this as me saying that the kid should get away with this scott free, he should be heavily punished. But both parties are at fault and you can punish both of them.

I fell asleep watching a 10 year old once. He had fallen asleep on the couch and it was close to midnight. I was 14 and not even supposed to be up that late. They were supposed to be home at 8pm. I think depending on the age of Op and the time it was it might have been naturally that they would have fallen asleep. However, the kid I babysat stayed asleep and his parents woke me up in the morning after calling my parents. I got paid for the whole night tho so it was okay.

The OP fell asleep WHILE the kid was sleeping. Maybe she fell asleep because she thought the kid was out for the night. Maybe she was younger, so (depending on the time) she naturally fell asleep. Firing the babysitter would be extreme. And so would slapping the kid. But she shouldn't be fired for falling asleep on the job. I bet many people have fallen asleep on their job.

You should be fired only for the fact that you are getting paid to do a job and be awake for it. You know going in how late it will be and if you are defending the babysitter by saying it was late and he was napping he should have been tucked in his bedroom in a bed not going to sleep on someones lap while watching a movie.

Honestly, I don't see why it is such a big deal whether OP should be fired or not. If I where her I wouldnt want that job anymore anyways.
