Today, I introduced my mother to my new girlfriend. My mom made a very nasty comment about her in Spanish, not realizing that my girlfriend teaches Spanish at the local school. FML

I was gonna say "inb4 google translated comments" but it looks like I'm way too late.

So, what did she say? Details are important. If she said, "Her hair is messy," that's one thing. If she said, "She looks like a Tramp," now that would be bad. Partial stories are deceiving. :)

True, but the OP's wording of 'very nasty comment' usually conveys a meaning much worse than "Her hair is messy."

Disregard...someone beat me to it up top

That sucks! I hope she apologized after finding out your girl speaks Spanish (if she found out). But... She's still your mother. And will be until the day she dies. Will your girlfriend be with you for the next 20, 30 or 40 years?

If you're in a relationship you don't intend to last, you shouldn't be in it at all in my opinion.

Not if someone offs her for being a bitch. Just because the person is your mother does not mean they have the right to sabotage your love life. After 18 the parents have no say in who you date and what you do. The mother had no right to say what she said and justifying it through "she is your mother" does nothing. He is her son, he will be there to take care of her through the hard time (or so they say) and she should want him to be happy. See, it goes both ways? She was in the wrong, don't try to justify it. She had no excuse to be rude.
