Today, I corrected someone who spelled "learned" as "learnt" on my favorite forum. Nothing could've prepared me for the torrent of abuse that followed from the non-American members. Now I'm banned for "trolling," and all my 7,000+ posts since 2006 are gone forever. FML

My question is why you have 7,000+ posts in the first like. You sound like you have no life YDI

It's not all that much when you consider that's from 2006 to now. I was a nerd and did the math, and 7,000 posts in six years comes out to an average of about 3 posts a day. Not much in the grand scheme of things, really. That's probably how often most people comment here.

Anyone else have an issue with the whole "abuse from NON-Americans?" I know plenty of American grammar-Nazis that would have abused you too. (Like me) I highly doubt it's ONLY non-Americans. SOME of us Americans actually understand that there are many different forms of the same words that are correct. And if we aren't certain whether or not the spelling is applicable for other countries, we keep our mouths SHUT. (Or in this case, we don't press 'enter') Believe it or not, some Americans take care to ensure they aren't part of the "self-centered American" stereotype. Avoiding trolling in forums is one of the first ways to start!

My only real opinion in the whole English/American spelling thing is that i think you guys are missing out with the fs instead of phs. Sulfur is just a little dull compared to sulphur, and it also confuses me why phosphorus gets to keep the ph but poor sulphur doesn't...

I find it sad that you're actually upset over the fact that they deleted your posts

Stupid non-Americans go USA

The whole argument of American vs. British spelling is ridiculous, yet it erupts on almost every website I've been on that allows comments. And it's bad on both sides--I've seen pretty equal numbers of Americans complaining about British spelling and non-Americans complaining about American spelling. What's the point of that? Would you go up to a Spaniard or a German and start ranting about how your language is better than theirs? Complaining about another country's spelling is just as silly.

^^^ Na don't worry, the Internet is most certainly American
