Today, I came out to my dad. He called me weak minded and said that he has never been more disappointed in me. I didn't come out as gay. I came out as a vegetarian. FML

Dude, go eat a steak and grow up. It's time to put the milk bottle down and eat big boy food now. I'd be disapointed too if my kids turn out to be Vegetarian.

How is that even supposed to compare to being gay? Who cares???

Well I'd be disappointed if I had an ignorant and rude child like you.

That's great that you became a vegetarian, and very ignorant of your father to react like that.

You deserve it for being a loser elitist hippie.

I knew that veg/meat is a touchy subject [like homosexuality, abortion, and all the other touchy subjects which you have SOMEHOW found a way to drag into the conversation]. But most of you [from both sides] have truly overwhelmed me with your self-righteousness, egos, and absolute hilarity. "Speak your mind, but please try and be respectful." Good job, guys. xD I lol'd at #113, 124, and especially 291. You guys rock. #105, 242: "Get ready for osteoporosis!!!!" - Oh really? http://www.diseaseproof.com/archives/osteoarthritis-are-dairy-products-the-answer-to-osteoporosis.html #306 - And if change [for ANY cause] doesn't start from a small group of people, then where exactly do you propose it should start from? #345 - "Even Vegans who eat wheat are supporting the death of thousands of rabbits, field mice and possibly birds that happen to get caught by the harvester, or ingest poisonous chemicals from the wheat or insects that have been on the wheat." Does it really have to be an all-or-nothing situation, though? Just because we can't save every animal on the planet, or prevent ourselves from accidentally stepping on an ant or from, as you said, trapping creatures in the wheat, does that mean we might as well give up on the cause entirely and continue to torture the other hundreds of thousands in factory farms? A small number of lives is better than none at all. And finally, #205. I am from a Hindu family as well, from a civilization that has, as you pointed out, existed for thousands of years. It seems to suggest that the "natural" argument for carnivorism is basically null and void at this point in time. Those who disagree with me will probably point out that for hundreds and hundreds of thousands of years before the existence of Indian civilization, its inhabitants also hunted, ate meat, etc, which is true. However, it is also true that after their 'reform' (the birth of Hinduism) took place, they CONTINUED to flourish as a nation for thousands of years, showing that carnivorism is not in fact necessary or essential to human survival/reproduction nor its cultural/intellectual growth. In my own biased opinion, I would suggest that the treatment of other animals with respect and equality was actually conducive to the latter. To those making the 'natural' argument: You are absolutely right that it was in our prehistoric ancestors' nature to hunt and eat meat, but that does not necessarily translate into us, today, having to act in the same way. The reason? We have imports and exports of food, doctors, nutritionists, and a wealth of knowledge at our disposal. We have the capability to live [HEALTHILY] without meat, whereas they did not. We are not living in the same world. We have toilets so you don't have to live with your shit, anaesthetic so you don't have to feel your root canal; most significantly [to this forum], factory farms to kill and drain blood and neatly package up your meat for you so that you don't have to see the reality of animals' deaths - shame on you for calling vegetarians cowards.

First of all I would just like to say that these are just my opinions and i dont assume that I am right 100% of the time. Also I am opposed to vegitarianism but I do not dislike anyone for their choice to become a vegitarian. Now I would like to start out by saying that God made us omnivores. So why would we go against his wishes? Next, if everyone in the world joined your cause of vegitarianism then there would be a major overpopulation of animals and (since the majority of the animals that we eat feed on plants ie: pigs, cows, and chickens) then we would lose even more plants to those animals. That would then lead to an alarmingly low rate of plants which would then cause less oxygen and more carbon dioxide which causes the air to be less clean for our world. And since our ozone is made out of oxygen, then the ozone would start to deteriorate which could then SERIOUSLY damage our planet. Now I know that these are extreme cases i am talking about, but it could still happen in small ammounts. Also, if you decide to turn to vegitarianism then you are missing key nutrients that will protect you and keep you healthy and alive longer. Red meat contains vitamin B12, vitamin B6, niacin, iron, zinc, phosphorus, and proteins. Next, for all of the people in the world who think that animals are being tortured for meat, their NOT! The people who slaughter animals for meat are professionals and they would be wasting time by torturing animals and giving them a slow death. They know what they are doing. If they give animals a quick death then they will have extra time to kill more animals to increase their income. So no animals are being tortured! That is just a horrible assumption. Now, like I said, these are just my opinions and i do not see my point of veiw as the absolute correct choice. It is only the correct choice in my eyes. And obviously I have not brought up points about people having meat allergies. If you have them, then do not eat meat. Duh. I hope I have not insulted anyone by what I have said because it isn't my intention to do so. So when you read these comments. KEEP AN OPEN MIND
