Today, for our anniversary, I had made a small treasure hunt for my boyfriend, tying roses with notes of poetry to lampposts across campus to lead him to where we would have a romantic dinner. He couldn't find it because people had stolen the roses, or simply ripped them to pieces and thrown them away. FML

awwwww, what a sweet idea. too bad it didn't work out.

You're an idiot to think people wouldn't ruin it

OP, you are the girl that every (intelligent) man wants. You went through all that trouble for him. If other people weren't so careless it would have worked. FYL indeed.

Not to be a downer, but cool, creative, and fun items left unattended on public display usually = "FREE, take one, have a great day!" This is especially true on a college campus where free things are highly appreciated. Unless you had posted notes telling everyone else to not take them, I can easily see how people mistook them as being free for the taking like a random act of kindness or pay it forward type of gesture. (Of course, some people ignore notes so unfortunately even that may not have been enough.) Hope it was a good day, nonetheless!

I don't understand why you were surprised, guys know how much girls like flowers but they can be expensive so a free one taped to a post is like the neighbor getting mad at people picking off his orange tree hanging over the fence. Still, sorry op

Am I the only one who thinks OP's idea was way too cheesy in the first place? Roses with love poetry leading to a romantic dinner? What straight man in his right mind wants so much corniness in one place? I'm a woman and I would feel a bit embarassed if my boyfriend did such a thing for me, I can't imagine how OP's boyfriend would have felt. I know that some girls love this cheesy stuff and would probably be delighted if their boyfriends did that for them. But men usually feel very embarassed if you shower them with such cheesy, "girly" gifts. They like giving you "girly" gifts if they love you, but they don't necessarily like receiving them. Who knows, maybe it was OP's boyfriend who took the roses in the first place, because he didn't want to have to endure all that cheesiness.

I'm a guy and I think that's so romantic, I'd love that kind of gift, especially the poems... But I do believe this was poorly executed, anything unattended in a public place, especially a college campus, can't be expected to be left alone. A bit naive of her.

86- I see your point, but not every straight man has to hate romance. OP probably knows the kind of things he likes; I doubt she would've done it if he wasn't into that kind of thing.

Sucks what happened. People are dicks. Funny it happened anyways. Dnt be so cheesy next time :p

You mean he was the first male in the history of the planet to remember a dating anniversary?

In this modern day and age, how can you NOT? You barely have to remember anything if you use digital calendars...
