Some help

Today, I offered to help out at my grandpa's farm, and he had me load buckets of water into his trunk. When he came by and saw me struggling to lift a bucket, he sneered, called me a moron for filling it up before putting it in the truck, and told me to just go home. FML

Don't worry too much about it OP. you're a good person for offering help

You were just getting your weightlifting done, saving you that trip to the gym. He's just jealous of your developing muscles and your multitasking skills.

Okay yeah. Would have been smarter to put the empty buckets into the truck first. But calling your grandchild an idiot just makes me mad. What a loser your grandfather is. It's not cool to down someone who is trying to help you. Ever.

What if the person trying to help is actually making it harder by being in the way and takes a longer time to do than if you were doing it yourself.

at least that person offered to help. they gave up their time and energy to try and make your life easier, even if they did end up doing the opposite, they were thoughtful enough to offer

Then the polite thing to do would be to say "normally we would... It is much faster that way." Not call someone a moron.

He sounds like an asshole. Don't sweat it, OP. Water is heavy anyway.

That's what I tell myself when I check my weight on the scale. IT'S ALL WATER!

OP's grandpa did get me to take off my clothes quite a few times. I was going to take them off anyways, but that's besides the point.

Not everyone is right-brained, so thinking outside the box doesn't always come easily. Grandpa could have been less of a tool and given you some pointers.

woulda rustled my jimmies then I woulda splashed him

My grandfather was like that, too. It's a shame when people can't be helpful instead of rude :

One day the grandfather is gonna need help. And no one will be there to help him! He'll get his day.

You offered him free help, he should be grateful for even the most ineffectual assistance.

Clearly no good deed goes unpunished. I commend you for trying to do a nice thing. Some people apparently can't appreciate that

When you live with family members like this, you get good at this sort of thing... at the expense of being able to make mistakes. I hate having a perfectionist family :(
