Bad omen

Today, I had a conference with my dad, my counselor, and my history and English teachers because my dad was "concerned" about my grades in those two classes. We talked for a while and it was going well, then my counselor asked what I wanted to study in college. I said I wanted to be a teacher. He laughed. FML

Oh well. If it's what you really want to do don't let people discourage you.

Being a dick is fun and rewarding. Being a teacher isn't.

If you're too stupid to get into teaching, you better get fitted for that clown costume.

i hardly think this is a FML but all the same, not a nice counsellor. .

exactly why would anyone want to stay in school their whole life?

People who want to help children but don't have the stomach for social services, or for being a doctor? Have you ever tried to teach someone something, and watched them struggle, and then seen their face when they finally got it? It's that look. People who want to be parents but still have time to spend with their kids, since their schedules will only be slightly off from each others?

^^^^ Exactly. I used to wanna teach for that reason, but realized I probably wouldn't like it as much as the years went by. Instead, I'm gonna practice family law.

wow that's messed up. don't listen to him op

My old Science Teacher got laid off... Now I'm his supervisor. Teaching can be a fail of a career.

maybe it's because he knows teachers don't make shit

A lot of school personnel (counselors and teachers) have NO CLUE. The irony may be you want to become one of them... :) IGNORE his snide laughter. He's ignorant and probably suffers from low self-esteem. Don't fall into his rat-trap. Be the bigger person -- and become one of the GOOD teachers. I had many good ones. I also had many bad ones. Personally I flunked "computers" in high school. Didn't take any notes (worth 50% of the grade) -- the teacher couldn't accept that her students came to me for help... Turns out I became a System Administrator making 6 figures -- easily 3x what she makes today. I'm not the bigger person though -- have since revisited some of the old good teachers; bumped into her and ... laughed. HAHA

I think he can be forgiven to laugh at absurdities. Sure he should help people achieve their goals, but if someone has completely unrealistic ambitions they should make them aware of that.
