Today, I woke up after a long night of drinking with my friends. I vaguely remembered visiting a tattoo parlour, but nothing prepared me for the sight of the words "YOLO" and "MOFO" tattooed across the fingers of my left and right hands. Now I'm officially a bandwagoning douchebag. FML
Today, I showed my new tattoo to my friends. It's supposed to be a deep, philosophical quote in Latin, symbolizing strength and resilience. My friend, who happens to be fluent in Latin, started laughing hysterically. Turns out, it actually says, "You are dumb." FML
Today, after months of planning, I finally got my first tattoo: my cat's paw print. I love it so I showed my friends pictures. One said it looks like poop and the other said it looks like I have a disease. FML
Today, I complimented a guy on his Van Gogh costume. As it turns out, he had an infection in his ear. FML
Today, I got piss drunk. Being a tattoo artist, I came to the intoxicated conclusion that I could save much more money doing my own tattoos on myself. I now have my ex-boyfriend's name permanently on my thigh. It's not even spelled right. FML
Today, I got my first tattoo. It's a large broadsword which runs the length of my spine. I went home to show it off, only to learn that the hilt on my neck looks just like a penis when the rest of it is covered with my shirt. FML
Today, I showed my aunt and mother my tattoo. They both burst out laughing. FML
Today, I was looking at tattoos and fell in love with a really cool looking one, so I decided to get it. I later showed it to a friend who is a cop. He informed me that it is a gang tattoo. I think I just put a target on my ankle. FML
Today, I was showing my unique new tattoo to my friends when a man approaches me with his digital camera and asks if he could take a picture of the tattoo for his website. I agreed. I find out later that it's a site about ugly tattoos. FML
Today, my tattoo artist boyfriend of five months gave me my first tattoo in celebration of my 18th birthday. It was supposed to be a heart with my name in script. He spelled my name wrong. FML

Even if the tattoo artist can't spell, he/she will usually sketch out what is going to be done so you can approve it. I have no idea how people let these tattoo spelling errors happen.

You should also generally take more than a glance at the imprint of the tattoo before the artist starts inking you! How could you not have noticed a missing letter before giving your consent to start? YDI.

This is one of the reasons why I would never get a tattoo. You could end up going to a dumbass who can't spell and you're branded with their mistake for the rest of your life. Or at least until you have the money to remove it.

91- I have four, albeit small tattoos and not one of them is spelt wrong or screwed up, simply because I took the time to make sure it was perfect. It's not that hard to give a shit when you know it's going to be there for quite some time. Research it, check the spelling, double check it again and actually communicate with the the tattoo artist. No problems. :) I'd also advise doing what #1 said: Research the tattoo parlor and artist as well. Hygiene is important. :p

71 - My point was that the OP should have taken more than a quick glance at the design before actually agreeing to let the tattooing begin, although I do understand people seeing only what they expect! But if somebody wants to put that much faith in a stranger and only expect perfection they can't really complain if the tattoo comes up short.

I always see people wearing tattoos of Asian characters. Once someone thought the word for 'weird' meant 'hope'. That's another reason why you should make sure it doesn't say something stupid before you get it, OP
