Today, the last person I invited to my birthday party called and said they couldn't come because another party "came up" and they "hope I understand". It's on December 31st. This happens every year without fail. FML

Today, I sent out a note to 300 friends saying that I'm having a birthday party in a couple of weeks. I asked to please write back if they are interested in coming. Two people replied. They said they can't make it. FML

Today, it's been weeks since I made a Facebook page to arrange something for my birthday as no one was able to attend last year on short notice. Everyone was game but now everyone is flaking. One friend even said, "I'll see who RSVPs and then decide." FML

Today, I'd planned a surprise party for my best friend's birthday. However, she apparently found out about it and told me at the last minute she couldn't make it, probably to avoid being the center of attention. I'd already invited all of our mutual friends, so I had to awkwardly cancel the party. FML

Today, I'd organized a small dinner with immediate family for my birthday. I’ve since received texts from every one of them, cancelling due to varying reasons. My parents excuse is the funniest - they went out last night for a coworker’s party, and don’t want to go out again tonight. For me. Their child. FML

Today, I was invited to a party. Since I rarely get invited to any, I was super pumped. Both my parents work late, so I texted a couple of people to see if I could catch a ride. It turned out everyone's cars were full. I ended up missing one of the only parties I've ever been invited to. FML

My birthday is the same day . . . same thing happens to me too! Its a national holiday so they dont need another reason to party! I always throw a big bash in Jan when NOTHING is going on!

As I stated above. I know a girl who throws a kickass Birthday/NYE party every year. She obviously plans it months in advance and she makes it fun! People go out of their way to make it to her party. Also, it's ok if people start somewhere else and then move on to your party....or stop by your party and then move on somewhere else. She always has people coming and going, but ultimately, she gets to celebrate her birthday and ring in the New Year with her friends!

I have the same problem, except I was born on the 1st when everyone is hungover and doesn't want to celebrate. So I celebrate on the 31st. You know how? By not trying to plan my own party. Seriously, everybody in the world is celebrating your birthday, so just relax and enjoy it! And if you really want to have a birthday celebration, get a group of friends together (or even one or two) and go out to celebrate, or arrange to tack yourself on to another person's party. Adding a cake and a birthday song to a party is generally not a big deal.
