Today, my mother took a bunch of sleeping pills, then went driving. I followed her and dialed 911. Now she thinks that I was "trying to get her arrested," and she refuses to talk to me ever again. FML

Well, to be fair, you kinda *were* trying to get her arrested. But only as a means to an end, not an end per se. And she deserved it anyway, so you did not deserve her reaction.

At least u avoided what could've happened :/ You were just looking out for her and being concerned about other ppl's safety. GJ! ;o

Thats messed up dude. your mumsy was just trying to have fun. she couldve been in jail for a long ass time dude. like a year

Good for you for calling 911. My mother is an alcoholic and I always wondered what I'd do if I knew she were driving drunk. You could have saved someone's life. And to some other people who've commented: While you're right that it doesn't make sense to think OP called the police except to get them to stop his mom, I think the idea is that the mom's acting as though his primary intention was to get her in trouble rather than to keep her people safe. I think it's just the way the story was phrased that made it kind of not make sense. Alternatively, it's possible that OP really *wasn't* trying to get her arrested. Driving while not fully conscious is a (very dangerous) side effect of a lot of sleeping pills. It could be that this was a not-really-her-fault kind of thing and that the plan was to get her help. Since she took "a bunch" though I doubt that's what happened.

You make a good point about the Mom misunderstanding her child's intentions. I had read this as a "Mom accused me of trying to get her arrested and I totally wasn't," which obviously doesn't make any sense. It makes a lot more sense if you think of it as a "Mom thought I was just being a jerk." Good call.

You did the right thing OP. You idiots saying it was his fault are incredibly stupid. He probably didn't realize until it was too late to stop her before she got into her car.

she needs help watch her close and call suicide prevention for tips on what to do

OP you did the right thing, the number of times I had to call the police for my best friend for exactly that reason...she was pissed at me at the time but now thanks me because if I hadn't have, she'd be dead. Don't listen to the twats who think it's "cool" to not go to the police, clearly they've never been in that situation or if they have been, they think that someone liking them is more important than that someone staying alive.
