Sometimes dogs escape from home, not because someone was being careless and let their dog out unleashed. My dog did that once, we were lucky enough that he came back unharmed.

Oh man, I'm really sorry about your dog :-( Kind of reminds me of when I was taking my car to get fixed and I got rear ended and the other car was so badly broke that they ended up having to leave their car as well.

This was kind of sad and depressing up until the part where the guy says "Think of the irony". Then it becomes hilarious. As in British comedy hilarious. I noticed you were from the UK and can't help but imagine this as a comedy skit where the guy who ran over your dog is played by Ricky Gervais. In fact now I can't help but to picture that whole story happening with Ricky Gervais as the motorist, spewing line after line of dry, dark and witty observational humour, and it cracks me up. Very sorry about your dog, though.
