Today, as a prank, my friends put a big bucket of water on my door so that it would spill on me as I exited my room. It would have been funny if I hadn't been holding my $900 laptop as I was walking out. FML

Today, I woke up at 3:00 am feeling freezing cold and soaking wet. It turns out that my dad had opened my window when I was sleeping, and rain water had been pouring in on me all night. My hair, face, pillow, blankets, alarm clock, and homework were all soaked as well. FML

Today, my dad was sat on my laptop in the living room trying to learn how to do some rewiring around the house when he, and I quote, ”clicked on the thing.” My laptop is now riddled with so many viruses it’s basically a house brick. FML

Today, my brother "pranked" me by dropping my new laptop out my bedroom window. He'd set up a saran wrap safety net below to catch my laptop safely, but he didn't secure it well enough. My laptop is completely fucked and he won't accept responsibility because he didn't mean to break it. FML

Today, I played a friendly prank on my dad, loosening the legs of his chair so it would fall apart when he sat on it. He responded by making me stand outside and watch as he keyed both sides of my car, front to back, as punishment. FML

Laptop, phone and school books could easily cost up to $1000. Heck, if the laptop is a Mac, that's $1000 already. Apologies are not going to cover it. Especially if OP was a college student who is taking out loans.

But what if the parents cannot afford to replace it? I bought my own phone, textbooks, and laptop because my parents couldn't afford to buy them for me even if they wanted to. If my parents accidently ruined them I'm sure they'd give me some money, but there's no way they could replace all 3.

#53, I would say tough shit. If I bought all of my stuff (which I have, well over $3,000 worth of electronics and other items) and it was all destroyed by some dumbass move or joke by my parents, I'd be forcing them to pay back every cent and replace every item. I'd take them to court if it required doing so to get everything replaced. I'm sure as hell not spending another multiple thousand dollars to replace everything just because some dumbass decided to try and be funny and ended up destroying everything.
