Today, I was pulled over by the police. The cop was my ex-boyfriend. He had no legitimate reason to pull me over, so he thoroughly checked my car. He gave me a defect notice and a fine. What for? A broken door lock, on my rear passenger door. FML

Report his bacon ass! He shouldn't abuse his power

Isn't that unlawful harassment? If you can prove you had a relationship and he's bitter, you should sue him and the city! Cha-ching!!! $$$

You should have offered him a "special favor" ydi... Fight the ticket and get him in trouble

that can get you arrested or charged here in Australia, so it may give him more ammo to press charges or something

Though he may have done this to get back at you, some cops stoop this low all the time (in the USA, at least.)... They will look for a reason to ticket you, from speeding to broken headlights, to things I don't even remember. Worst part, it's "ok" to do last time I checked. FYL, and look out for him in the future. :3

20-No, you can fight a ticket without paying anything extra. But even so, your "rights" when it comes to cops are limited. Cops are very clique-ish and will almost always stand up for each other, no matter what. I knew a girl who was dating a cop and he was physically abusive. She ended up hitting him in the face and he arrested her for assault. All his little cop buddies stood up for him, making it impossible for her to prove the truth. Thankfully, the judge noticed how ridiculous the case was and dropped all charges.

1. File a report with the department. 2. Never consent to a cop searching your car. If you didn't consent and he just looked, pretty much guaranteed you can get that dropped; it's an illegal search.

The fine is sadly legitimate. Any broken door lock that can't lock is worthy of a fine. That can't be avoided - normally he can't stop you for no reason either and the search that resulted in the fine (finding the broken lock) could be questioned however his prior knowledge is enough for probable cause and reason. Sorry Hun - it sucks that he is a dick though

If he gave you no reason then he had no right to browse through your things. Just because they are police it doesn't mean your rights go out the window, unless Of course you did something that warrants it. If not, when asked to step out of your car take your keys and lock the door as you get Out. I hate jackass cops abusing power. Seems like there are only bad cops these days

In Canada you can get off charges for them not having a reason to stop you like this one guy had so much marijuana in the back of his car and they pulled him over he got off the charges because the police had no reason to stop him

Would you rather he unzipped his fly and asked you to blow the "breathalyzer?"

Don't you love ex's? They always seem to make life miserable.
