Today, after five months of working overtime and doing my own repairs around the house, such as patching my own roof to save money, I walk into my home office. I find my $2500, week old, top of the line laptop won't turn on because it's drenched in water. Apparently there's a leak in the roof. FML

Oh no! If you have homeowner's insurance, it might be covered. I hope so!

YDI, now your going to have to pay even more to fix the damage you did to the roof then you would of if you hired someone to repair it properly in the first place

I'm sure they realise this... That's why it's an FML. They hardly deserved it for trying to save money.

There are some things you skimp on but major repairs, such as anything that requires a specialization or a big ladder, shouldn't be one of them. My family and I do a lot of our own repairs, construction and lawn care but when it comes to roof work or plumbing its better in the long run to let a professional handle it.

If you're so poor, why aren't you getting the bottom-of-the-line computer?
When I was broke, I had a POS no-name PC clone. Now, that I am working, I have the computer I want. Don't buy things you can't afford!
And, BTW, YDI for fraudulently billing your clients for overtime when you were doing your own home repairs.

I think he was saying he was working overtime and doing his own home repairs as examples of attempts to save money. Not necessarily that the two were related.

Working at home is an attempt to MAKE money while doing your own repairs is an attempt to SAVE money.
I can't know for sure whether the OP is billing his client's for the time he his doing his repairs, but you can't know for sure that he is not.

wow dude, get your priorities in shape. hmmm let's see, laptop or roof? laptop or roof? fixing your roof will eventually save you enough in heating costs cause it's the winter. chances are you would have saved enough to buy a new laptop just with the savings from properly fixng your roof.
YDI, sorry buddy

And this is why you don't do your own home repairs unless you actually know what the fuck you're doing.

Im sorry but if you can afford a 2500.00 laptop im sure you could afford to pay someone to fix the roof! or better yet instead of buying that laptop a week ago you could have fixed the roof!
