Desperate times
Today, desperate for work, I went into a shop and asked the owner if he had any spare jobs to fill. He looked me up and down and sneered, "Yes, but not for people like... you." FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, while going around trying to find a job, a manager came up to ask me, "Are you looking to work here?" I nodded happily, hoping this would be the end of my search. She looked me up and down, saw I had a jacket on to hide my tattoos and said, "Sorry, I can't hire heroin addicts." FML
Today, I was at the fish store asking if they were hiring. My stepdad decided to humiliate me by screaming at them repeatedly that I'm a good person and that I deserve the job. FML
Today, I walked into Starbucks for a job application. I asked the manager if they were hiring, as I really need a job. He looked me up and down and replied, "NO!" There was a 'Now hiring' sign in the window. FML
Today, I went in for an interview at my dream job. When I walked in, I got a dirty look from the front desk secretary. Turns out, the guy interviewing me was from a dating website I'm on. I'd rejected him and told him to get a life. FML
Today, I had a job interview at a local business with the owner who was man, and the manager who was a woman. I thought I did pretty well because I heard the manager whisper so, as I was walking out. Then I heard the owner whisper, "No fat chicks." FML
Today, an elderly gentleman customer decided to tell me that while I'm not attractive at all, he'd still bang me all the same. Then he gave me a pained smile, like he was struggling not to shit himself, and left. I'm starting to hate working retail. FML
Today, I applied for a job as a secretary. As I sat in the waiting room, the interviewer came out with his wife. She gave me a once-over, then said to her husband, "Hire this one. She's so ugly, you would never have an affair with her." FML
Today, my friends gave me a complete makeover, which included clothes from their wardrobe, to prepare me for an upcoming job interview. I was then declined the position, because apparently, I "looked too wealthy" to need the job. FML
Today, I was working my job checking people in at the gym. A sweaty, chubby woman came up to me complaining about how our staff seems so fit. I replied, "We like to hire people who have bodies that motivate our clients!" She gave a blank stare, then said, "So how did you get the job?" FML
Today, as I rung up a customer's groceries, he gave me a pitying look and said I'd have a "real job" if I'd only studied harder. FML

Some people are just shallow, don't worry OP, you'll find a job soon enough.

Some people are too quick to judge by appearance. Sorry OP!

Id like to know op, what place was this?

Obviously, it's not a place where respect is a priority.

This is either racial/gender discrimination or a life lesson in how to present yourself, OP. Like it or not tattoos and piercings, raggedy clothing, and graphic t-shirts turn people off. If that's how you walked in then YDI, if not then FYL.

I guess that guy has never heard the saying, don't judge a book by it's cover.

We don't know the reason for the store owner saying what he said, only that it was very rude, and possibly discriminatory. I will say this though; when you are job hunting you are essentially a salesperson, and the product you are selling is yourself. If you have a shabby looking product it is going to be hard to sell, but if you have a well dressed, well groomed, and nice smelling product, then you will have an easier time making that sale. The truth is that how you present yourself to future employers matter a lot, if you look like you don't care about yourself, then why would they think that you will care about the job you are applying for?

Wait what are you? Are you even human? Haha but with all jokes aside, this FML really needs a follow up.

were you dressed in casual clothes or were you dressed nicely? One boss I had told me that he wouldn't give interviews to people who were dressed shabby when they applied because if they were serious about getting a job they would dress for an interview, even when applying.

You wouldn't want to work for a jerk like that anyway.
