Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, while going around trying to find a job, a manager came up to ask me, "Are you looking to work here?" I nodded happily, hoping this would be the end of my search. She looked me up and down, saw I had a jacket on to hide my tattoos and said, "Sorry, I can't hire heroin addicts." FML
Today, I was at the fish store asking if they were hiring. My stepdad decided to humiliate me by screaming at them repeatedly that I'm a good person and that I deserve the job. FML
Today, I walked into Starbucks for a job application. I asked the manager if they were hiring, as I really need a job. He looked me up and down and replied, "NO!" There was a 'Now hiring' sign in the window. FML
Today, I went in for an interview at my dream job. When I walked in, I got a dirty look from the front desk secretary. Turns out, the guy interviewing me was from a dating website I'm on. I'd rejected him and told him to get a life. FML
Today, I had a job interview at a local business with the owner who was man, and the manager who was a woman. I thought I did pretty well because I heard the manager whisper so, as I was walking out. Then I heard the owner whisper, "No fat chicks." FML
Today, an elderly gentleman customer decided to tell me that while I'm not attractive at all, he'd still bang me all the same. Then he gave me a pained smile, like he was struggling not to shit himself, and left. I'm starting to hate working retail. FML
Today, I applied for a job as a secretary. As I sat in the waiting room, the interviewer came out with his wife. She gave me a once-over, then said to her husband, "Hire this one. She's so ugly, you would never have an affair with her." FML
Today, my friends gave me a complete makeover, which included clothes from their wardrobe, to prepare me for an upcoming job interview. I was then declined the position, because apparently, I "looked too wealthy" to need the job. FML
Today, I was working my job checking people in at the gym. A sweaty, chubby woman came up to me complaining about how our staff seems so fit. I replied, "We like to hire people who have bodies that motivate our clients!" She gave a blank stare, then said, "So how did you get the job?" FML
Today, as I rung up a customer's groceries, he gave me a pitying look and said I'd have a "real job" if I'd only studied harder. FML

Were you wearing something offensive, did you go in without bathing or did you have a poor attitude? If you didn't do any of the above then you are lucky he told you that because he sounds like an ass. Keep your head OP you will find a job that appreciates you. Good luck.

Suck to hear, but you should have a look at yourself and figure out if he's right. Is there something you should change to make yourself more employable? Are you clean? Are your clothes clean? What's your image like? Does your appearance make others want to interact with you or does your appearance say "f*ck off"? For a lot of jobs, your appearance has a direct impact on your job performance so it could be a legitimate reaction. There are things that are hard to change (extremely overweight, birth defects, scars, etc.) but in most cases, you can fix your appearance with a shower, an haircut, clean clothes and a smile.

What's a flat brimmer? *curious* And while I agree that even if you're just going in to ask for an application and not just an interview that you should be tidily dressed and clean, I (personally) don't see anything wrong with piercings and tattoos, etc, as long as said tattoos aren't obscene/racist/whathaveyou. I'm a hospital worker and I have a tattoo (as well as three piercings in each ear) and so do a LOT of my co-workers, and honestly not a single patient has ever commented on either factor, because I'm pleasant and helpful and friendly.

Flat brimmer being a person that wears a flat brim baseball cap...often with the bill to the side or back. Stereotypically a trouble maker. Point being....if you are applying for a job, dress like you actually want a job.
